Kitten Diaries 2004
23rd May 2004:
Well a week after the boys have gone off to their new homes and this will be the last update to the kitten diary for some time, it’s been a big learning curve for us, I had seen several births and litters growing up before Poppy’s kittens arrived and I knew of the heartache that there could be too, but we had never bargained for it to be quite the rollercoaster it was for us, there are highs which are amazing but the lows are lower than you could ever dread to be.
We have loved having the boys here and loved every minute that we had them apart from the obvious times that were nothing but awful. We had four wonderful little boys and ended with three that went to their new homes, we hope as happy, well adjusted and virtually bomb proof little boys. We’re very proud of them and hope that they give Siobhan, Kebba, Fiona and Wayne years of love and fun.
It’s time now for us all to have a break for a while, get back to some showing (we hope to see one or maybe two of the boys being shown this year) and try and get back to normal for a while, maybe by the time all this has happened it will be time for some more Daisypurr babies and another diary?!
All that is left to say for the moment is our Thank You’s; especially to Dee, Debbie and Diane, but also to everyone that has supported us through our first year of breeding and Archie, Bailey and Leo’s new owners for giving them wonderful, loving homes.
THANK YOU.
19th May 2004:
We had an extra couple of days with Leo, he missed his brothers a lot on Saturday afternoon and wouldn’t eat but on Sunday he started eating again, just a little bit and then started to cheer up a bit! He spent some time on Sunday in the outside run with Poppy and Daisy who he seems to be getting on very well with, I think Archie was always her favourite though as he never showed her he was scared of her, Leo’s not quite that brave and doesn’t kiss her like Archie did but they do play together now which is nice, we have some photo’s of them very close together.
Well on Tuesday the time came for Leo to go home to Bristol with Fiona and Wayne, all very sad again, so we waved him off, Fiona rang today to say that they had, had a nice day at home together and that he was giving her lots of cuddles which is nice, we will be seeing Leo next month. The house feels terribly empty here, with just Daisy and Poppy to greet you when you get home and night and not the kittens like it has been for so long! I will update the kitten diary from time to time as updates come from their new owners.
16th May 2004:
Archie and Bailey left for their new home in Harrow with Kebba and Siobhan yesterday, it was all very sad to say goodbye to them and there were a lot of tears waving them off, it makes it easier that they have gone to good homes where they are being spoilt rotten though. We had a phone call from Siobhan today to let us know that the boys had settled in, Archie has been fooling us all and he was a little shy once he got there which we would have never imagined, if anything we would have thought it would have been Bailey! They are starting to settle in and woke them up this morning running over the bed and biting their toes at 5.00 A.M Ahhhhhhhhhhhh bless them! I will put some updates of them in their new homes now and again so you can all see how they are doing and hopefully we will see them at some point later in the year.
Leo spent the rest of the day crying and looking for his brothers and wouldn’t eat poor little man so he spent the night sleeping on the bed as we felt guilty leaving him on his own!
9th May 2004:
Well I can’t believe we’re in the final week with these lovely boys, not looking forward to next weekend.
Archie has become very demanding, when he wants dinner he makes sure that everyone in the house knows about it, very vocal little man, he also likes climbing legs, especially if we’re not making his dinner as quickly as he thinks we should.
Leo has got really good at fetching things and loves to walk around with a mouse in his mouth, or as he has just this minute done, walk over the computer and steal pieces of paper and run off with them, horror!
Bailey loves nothing better than to curl up on my lap and go to sleep, every-time someone comes to visit, he curls up and goes to sleep, the rest of the time though he’s running around like a lunatic and fighting with Poppy and his brothers.
The boys continue to go and visit Aunty Daisy each day, I think she likes it really, although she would never admit it! Archie is very brave, just charges up to her and gives her the biggest kiss possible, and she doesn’t even bother to growl at him now, Bailey is a little more cautious, but also gets a kiss in before she gets fed up, Leo hangs back a little and she usually moans at him as I think she realises that he’s a little nervous of her, Bailey likes sitting on the TV with his mum, very sweet, but she really knows she shouldn’t be on there.
The kittens are mad for climbing things at the moment, if it’s climbable it’s climbed, if it’s edible it’s eaten, they tried some prawns this week and they went down very well, especially with Leo who couldn’t get enough of them.
The boys now take sleeping on laps in turn as they are too big to all get on together, they almost seem to wait in line, one jumps on my lap, cuddles and purrs for a bit, sleeps for half hour, then the next one, then the next one, a little production line!
2nd May 2004:
The boys are really desperate to meet Aunty Daisy and run through the door at every opportunity and go and rub her, Bailey and Archie are very keen on this game, Leo is a little more reserved on this one though, she’s been surprisingly good with them, she moans but so far she’s not smacked them, so we will try letting them together under very watchful eyes a couple of times, so that she can meet her, after all everyone should have a Daisy in their lives!
Leo has now been provisionally booked and will be going to live with Fiona and Wayne in Bristol, they are also hoping to show him which will be good to see how he does.
It’s strange but everyone that’s been to see the kittens have been surprised by how outgoing and friendly they are, I suppose they’ve had so much handling from birth that they’ve not really had a choice in the matter and have grown used to it!
They are already starting their ‘training’ in playing fetch, so it will be like having a dog round for their new owners!
They are all still enjoying cuddles and playtime, we are really going to miss them, I have said that I might go out on collection day, they will all have to stay then lol!
I hope that we are lucky enough to have these babies as wonderful as these each time we have kittens, they have been wonderful, sweet, outgoing, cuddly and beautiful. We couldn’t have asked for nicer BOYS, we hope that we will get all of this next time, but a visit from the girl fairy would also be very much appreciated!
They have also copied one of their mum’s very bad habits, of jumping up on top of the TV and sitting up there, very naughty, but very nice! :-)
Not many more diary entries to go now, and then it will be new owners doing occasional updates.
22nd April 2004:
We had a wonderful visit yesterday from Toly and Valentina from www.photocat.co.uk and boy did they do a fabulous job, I think we will ask them to move in with us and take photo’s all the time! The photo’s are stunning and we can’t thank Toly and Valentina enough for taking the time to come and do this for us, they were amazing, so patient and wonderful with the cats, I think the photo’s show their skills perfectly. We will be updating the website with more over the next few days, there are some on various pages for now, and I will be sending a disk to Debbie soon for the rest!
We’d had some photo’s done at a show a few months ago and were very disappointed so we didn’t get our hopes up too high this time, but what can I say……………..WOW!
All of the kittens were little stars as well as Poppy but the biggest shock was the stunning pictures of Daisy, these were very unexpected and very beautiful.
The boys have had a good week, Archie and Bailey now have their pedigree names chosen, (subject to GCCF approval) they will be Daisypurr Adalais Archer (This means noble) and Daisypurr Kavan Bailey (This means handsome) how appropriate!
They will be having visits from their new mum and dad, Siobhan and Kebba this weekend, which they are very much looking forward too, I’m sure they will give Leo some cuddles too so he doesn’t feel too left out! We will make sure that Siobhan and Kebba have some of the wonderful new photo’s to take away when they take the boys home in a few weeks.
The boys are as rowdy as ever, running around like lunatics but crawling in our laps for sleeping when it’s crash out time, they are wonderful purrsonalities, such very sweet boys.

19th April 2004:
I know it’s been a while since the last update, we’ve had the worst week we could ever imagine here, I would like to say thank you to the vets and nurses at Windmill Vet Surgery in Winslow for doing all they could and to all the people that have phoned and sent e-mails, thank you.
On a better note Bailey (formerly known as Ceasar) and Archie (formerly known as Max) met they’re new mum and dad, they will be going off to live with Siobhan and Kebba in Harrow, we know they will have a wonderful home there. It’s always nice when you meet people and you just ‘know’ that they are right, we’ve been very lucky in finding some wonderful people, Gill and Tom were the same, unfortunately due to what’s happened they won’t be joining the Daisypurr family, although we will keep in touch.
Leo needs a home, the right one will come along, we’ve had a lot of enquiries, just no one else that has come across as perfect yet.
We have Siobhan and Kebba coming to visit their little boys this weekend which will be nice, it’s nice to get to know people better, everyone at the vet has fallen in love with Bailey, but I’ve told them he’s already got a home! The lilacs seem to be very popular at the moment, it’s a shame that the lighting in the house does no justice to them, we took Bailey into the garden today to have a look at him and he’s a lovely colour, doesn’t look anywhere near as nice inside, it’s funny he and Archie have always been good friends but since they are going together they’ve become even closer, sleeping together ALL the time, I think Leo feels a bit left out at times, bless him.
We have Anatoli and Valentina coming to take photographs this week which will be lovely, we’re really looking forward to it, it’s just a real shame that it will be three of them, not the four that it was always meant to be.
All three kittens have had their first vaccinations, Leo was very brave, Bailey and Archie weren’t though, typical! Leo didn’t even murmur, just looked around about two minutes later as if to say ‘AND’ and then started purring! Archie is a top kisser just like his dad and will give kisses on demand, I hope this intensive training will be kept up in his new home lol!
14th April 2004:
I'm afraid we lost Bramble yesterday, he died at the vet yesterday afternoon, we finally thought that we were winning. I will write more later in the week, we are both devastated, he was a wonderful little boy and the house isn't the same without him. Sleep well Sweetheart.

9th April 2004:
We’ve had to postpone our photo session for this week the kittens have had some diarrhoea which wasn’t nice for them poor little boys, the vet gave them synulox and some pro-biotic and they all seem much better now, they need to catch up on the weight gain now and then we’ll be able to reschedule the photo shoot when they are all chubby again! They are getting back to their normal self now, which is good, always horrible to see the girls ill but its worse when they’re so small, at least it was nothing to worry about.
All the vets and nurses flock for cuddles whenever we go there, there’s no shortage of attention for them
Still enjoying lots of cuddles and they play more by the day, all very cheeky and bombard you with cuddles as you walk in the room.
They are now all used to having eyes cleaned, nails cut, grooming etc and are usually very well behaved.
My digital camera broke last week so we might not have many pictures while it’s away being repaired, I have borrowed one but it’s not as clear as my one, I will also dig my 35 mm camera out, not had much use for it since we got the digital.
We’ve had a visit from Brambles new Mum and Dad today, they came last week and back to see him today, I’m so pleased that they’ve decided to stick to calling him Bramble, as anyone that follows the diary knows he was named after my dog that was put to sleep two days before they kittens were born, he was also a fighter when he was little and it seemed very appropriate for him. We have all decided that his pedigree name will be Daisypurr Busta Bramble as Busta was another name that Gill and Tom liked for him.
We took him outside today to look at him in the sunlight, he has a wonderful pale lilac coat, and looks so much nicer in natural light than he does indoors, we may just have to try to twist their arms into showing him!! I’m sure he’s going to have a wonderful home, with people that love him just as much as we do, he will be staying with us for an extra few weeks, as he’s still behind the rest of the kittens and won’t be having his vaccinations until after the rest of the boys.
We have some more people coming to visit this weekend, it’s all go when you have kittens!

2nd April 2004:
Kittens are still into everything, they have now added turning the printer on to their repertoire, Ceasar can now jump out of the kitten pen (which is now acting as a kitchen door when we’re out, not that it will help much now!) Bramble has been playing with a ball, which is a big improvement, he still has a long way to go but he’s getting there slowly and is a gorgeous, cuddly little boy. Max is climbing mad but still loving cuddles and Leo is gorgeous, he seems to capture the heart of everyone that walks in the door!
They all now prefer to sleep either on the radiator bed or the sofa rather than anywhere else, if there is a lap on the sofa to sleep on this acts as an added bonus too.
These boys are lovely to have around and we’re not looking forward to them leaving one little bit, one of the boys met their new owners today though a lovely couple, who I’m sure will love their little boy as much as we do, I must admit though I cried my eyes out as soon as I got off the phone, I guess part of me hoped that the right people would never come along!
We have also had Anatoli and Valentina of http://www.photocat.co.uk to visit today, to get ready for a photo session next week, which I’m sure will be wonderful, they have some fantastic photo’s and the site is well worth a visit.
Kittens have had a busy week as ever, eating, sleeping, playing and being cuddled all takes its toll on them!
Max is currently asleep on the radiator bed, Leo and Ceasar curled up together on the sofa and Bramble in his favourite place, lying on his back on my lap, this is what life is all about

27th March 2004:
They are into everything! They are complete horrors but in the sweetest way.
Bramble is now a bit more lively, but loves his cuddles still, he’s going to make someone a wonderful pet. Max loves cuddles and has learnt how to do kisses on request (just like his daddy Bart!) it’s very cute, another boy that will be a lovely pet, he climbs on our laps to fall asleep if we don’t pick his up. Ceasar is just gorgeous, and oh so loveable, he looks like a big teddy bear and Leo is looking fabulous, we hope he will be going to a show home as he’s looking lovely, he also has a wonderful temperament, all four do, not surprising really as both Poppy and Bart are big softies.
We have two people coming to see the kittens tomorrow, so it may be meeting new mummies and daddies day tomorrow, which will be both great and sad for us, we’re really not looking forward to letting them go.
After a lot of soul searching we have decided that as they are all boys we are letting them all go to new homes, even the lovely Bramble that we’ve bonded so much with, providing obviously that the right people come along, otherwise we may be keeping all four of the little horrors! Thankfully we’ve had a lot of enquiries and some really nice people that have been prepared to answer my questions and wait for them.
They are now all climbing (legs are still popular for climbing up) they will not eat whiskas, so we must try harder with this as I’m sure new owners won’t want to feed fresh beef, chicken and fish for the next 20 years, promise I will try not to give in when they give me the ‘please mum where’s my beef’ look.
More and more pictures next week.

19th March 2004:
Bramble has started to eat chicken all by himself!!! We’re so pleased.
The kittens are into everything and they love their kitty castle, make a beeline for it as soon as they see it, bless them.
They’re using the scratching post and the litter tray which is great, bless their little hearts.
They love cooked chicken and fish but as for the Whiskas kitten, they turn their cute little noses up at it, we will try to get them onto kitten food before they go to their new homes I promise, but at least they’re eating.
They are really playful and very naughty, but just SO sweet with it, little angels.
They are all getting used to having eyes and ears cleaned and having their nails clipped regularly which is going well, they are all really good.
All four of them love cuddles and love to cuddle up on our laps to go to sleep.
We had a compliment last week, saying that other BSH kittens they had seen had been really stand offish, but she just got swamped in them when she came here, so hopefully all of our efforts to socialise them are paying off.
Poppy is still doing a top job, we’re so proud of the job she’s done, that’s my girl Poppy!

The babies are gorgeous!! We decided they couldn’t keep being called CP1, CP2 etc, so we have given them names for now, no doubt these will change once they go to their new homes though, the lilac point boy is now called Leo, the little lilac boy Bramble, the second CP is Max and the fourth boy is Ceasar (born by c-section hehe!) We had Debbie and Amber to visit last weekend which was very nice, we played with kittens, watched Angel and had just a little wine and dooleys! They both liked the kittens, but then who wouldn’t? We also had Marcia round, who tried to steal them, I made sure I counted them all in though and we still have four!
We’re hoping to have Dee to visit soon too, to see what she thinks of them.
Three of them are now eating, Ceasar and Leo love the chicken and Max loves the glop, Bramble is eating the glop from a syringe, but he’s not ready for eating himself yet, he’s a long way behind the other three boys but I’m sure he’ll get there.
They have all turned into little hooligans, climbing legs, running away from Poppy when she wants them (she’s not pleased about that and gives them a good telling off)
They have discovered a little shelf at the bottom of the computer table, they have decided it’s a really good place to sleep and were in there for ages earlier fast asleep, awwww bless them.
All four like rolling on backs and having tummy’s tickled, a trait they get from their mum, although both Poppy and Bart both love cuddles.
Ceasar saw Poppy scratching on the door of the kitten pen to get out today, so I let her out and then he did the same, he’s a cheeky monkey that boy!
Leo, Ceasar and Max are all using the tray.
Matt’s dad’s been a great help and has been coming in, in the day to help feed Bramble, he’s been a star.
They all run at you now when you walk in the room, shy is a word that I can’t use for them, which is good.

2nd March 2004:
The kittens have given up on walking, running is now the preferred method of transport! As soon as you open the kitten pen they run at you and climb up you and don’t forget those very sharp baby teeth! They are gorgeous.
The little lilac boy is now up on his feet, he can’t manage the running yet but can manage the walking and fighting his brothers.
The big lilac boy has got bags of character, crawls up onto my lap, rolls over to have his tummy tickled, beats his brother up and today went skating in the baby rice, which was lovely and messy but had me killing myself laughing.
The cream point boy is just as sweet, doesn’t do the baby rice skating yet though I’m sure it won’t be long.
The lilac point boy is purr mad, every-time you touch him he purrs, a lovely little boy.
We like every-one of them for a different reason!
They all follow their mums lead and scratch the door to get out of the kitten pen, and the big lilac tried leaping out today, not quite big enough yet though thankfully.
We’ve started offering them some baby rice and glop this week, not taking much interest yet though, we’ll keep trying.
They are all looking forward to meeting Grandma Debbie this weekend, not sure about Poppy though, she remembers what happened last time she saw Debbie or more importantly Bart!
We WILL be checking bags on the way out.
Poppy is a very over protective mum, she’s a bit worried about them running around and meows to tell us they’re being naughty and running away from her, she’s so good with them, bless her.

Well the kittens are lovely now, getting up and about now and trying to escape from the bed in the kitten pen!
We are enjoying having them around now, hopefully the worst is over now (everything crossed!) Poppy is doing a great job as ever, she’s turned out to be such a good mum, bless her.
Aunty Daisy has met them this week (through the Perspex of the kitten pen anyway!) so she is now spending some time in the living room with us again which is nice, her and Poppy are still getting on well and Poppy is still jumping on Daisy and ambushing her J
The kittens are wobbling about now, getting quite fast on those chunky little legs, they already enjoy being cuddled and roll on their backs for tummy rubs just like their mum, still hoping that one might turn into a girl but I can’t see it somehow! I keep being told that by the time they are 13 weeks old I will be glad to let them go to, I still can’t see it happening though.
I don’t think it will be long now before they will be running around, can’t wait to try them on weaning next week, hopefully it will allow the little lilac boy to catch up.
The lilac point and the lilac self born by c-section are both huge, a right pair of monsters and always fighting too! The cream point is a bit smaller but still a good size and then the little lilac who is small but just as gorgeous as the others, we are still topping him up with tube feeds, lazy little boy L
We’ve had the best week with the babies yet, if I’d been asked the day they were born or even that week if I would ever breed again the answer would have been NO, however I don’t think that I would say the same anymore! J Just look at the new photo’s to see why.

20th February 2004:
Well what a week it’s been, I’ve not been well, lilac kittens not been well and we are all shattered! We are still tube feeding the lilac boy, we have just moved him to four hourly instead of three and a half hours and he is now having more milk as he has got a bit bigger, it’s all been a bit of a rollercoaster ride really, right from when they were born, he has been back to the vets twice this week to be checked on and they are pleased with him, he’s putting on weight steadily. We had a breakthrough yesterday, I have been putting him onto Poppy before each feed in the hope that he will latch onto her but normally he just curls up and sleeps instead of suckling, not yesterday, he stayed latched on, while I kept the other kittens away and he was going for ages, was so pleased, I could have cried!
He has been on today a couple of times, he still needs a bit of help though to get on there, but he’s actually starting to get there on his own now, we will continue supplementing him until he’s a bit bigger and stronger but hopefully we will be able to start enjoying these babies soon instead of just worrying about them all the time, which is what we’ve done up to now.
We now know the sex of the kittens and they are ALL BOYS!!!! I am very disappointed and Bart is not in my good books at the moment, 18 hours in the car and he couldn’t even give me one girl?? Call himself a stud huh, he will be getting a talking to next time I see him!!
We do however have four lovely babies, 2 lilac self's, a lilac Colourpoint and a cream Colourpoint, I have a nice names list BUT only one of them was for a male (Well I wanted a girl!) So the little poorly boy has his pedigree name, but none of the others do as yet, will have to get my thinking cap on, or wait until they have pet names that I can adapt into pedigree names!
A couple of the kittens have now been purring for nearly a week, and the others are catching on fast, all four have their eyes open now and are all starting to develop their own purrsonalities, and the Colourpoints are developing their coloured points and they are starting to look like cats now instead of little mice lol! The lilac Colourpoint purrs when you stroke him, very cute.
All but the little lilac boy managed to hiss at the vet yesterday which is very funny!
They are all lovely, we could quite happily keep them all, hehe!!!

Lilac 2 birth -98g Now-186g
Well what a week, after managing to get over the initial hick up of the lilac boy not feeding, we had to take him back to the vets yesterday, he had started losing weight and was quite lifeless, just slumping when we were putting him onto Poppy to feed, unlike the others.
The vet kept him in to tube feed him, and we collected him a couple of hours later, complete with a feeding tube and some syringes, I have done this on a couple of kittens belonging to a friend before, so knew what to do, he is now being tube fed every three and a half hours day and night and we are all exhausted, but if it makes him pull through it will be well worth it, he has a lot more fight in him today which can only be a good thing, so everything crossed for him to pull through.
We are still debating on the sex of the kittens, and have several different opinions, especially on the second lilac, the latest opinion on that one is the vet thinks girl, but who knows at the moment, once everyone is feeling a bit better will we look again and try to work them all out once and for all!
The kittens are lovely, two of them are starting to open their eyes right at the corners, and one of them had the vet in stitches yesterday by growling at her (Can you imagine something that tiny growling???) The umbilical cords have dropped off of most of them now and one of them can purr, which we weren’t expecting to happen until they were a little older, the Colourpoints are noisier than the lilac self's.
Poppy is doing a great job with them, but also likes to have 10 minutes away from then, either upstairs seeing Daisy or just in the room, she soon asks to go back to them though which is good news.

9th February 2004:
At 2.10 AM the first kitten finally arrived, a Colourpoint baby weighing in at 89g
At this point our friend Diane came over to help out and soothe our nerves and we were so glad she did when at 3.10 the second kitten a lilac self weighed in at 103g arrived, he was in breach position and the sac had already broken before his head was out, Diane revived him, but he was terribly chesty and we didn’t know if he would make it through the night.
At 3.40 AM the third kitten was born, another Colourpoint kitten weighing in at 86g Poppy took care of this kitten all by herself and did rather a good job of it, she was very tired by this time, once she’d cleaned the third kitten up we transferred the other kittens from the heat pad to Poppy and she gave them all a wash and settled down, she wasn’t terribly interested at first and it took a while for her maternal instincts to kick in but they did.
Poppy was doing well and feeding the babies, but the lilac boy was still slow and not feeding so we decided to take him to the vet, rather than upset Poppy by taking him away on his own we decided to take them all, so we put the kittens in one carrier and Poppy in the other, facing each other and off we went, when we arrived the vet checked Poppy out as in the night both Diane and I thought we could feel a baby but weren’t sure, the vet felt what she thought was an enlarged uterus but said we could have a scan to make doubly sure, which we decided to do.
Poppy had her scan and there on the screen was a little heartbeat, the baby was lying across the cervix which meant that the baby wouldn’t come out naturally alive, so off Poppy went for her c-section.
The vet then had a look at the lilac boy and said he was a little chesty but had a good suck reflex but that it would be a good idea to have a bottle feed, one of the nurses was eager to do this and have a little cuddle so she did and he did really well, the vet said there may be a problem right at the back of his throat that they can’t detect but it’s just a case of wait and see, we have it all crossed for him now.
We heard a really loud baby mew and got told that we had another baby lilac girl; we were over the moon as we wanted to keep one, then out came the vet and said all four kittens were boys (probably!!!) L Poppy was also well and coming round from the anaesthetic well, as soon as she saw the babies again she meowed and then we brought them all home, she took to them again as soon as she saw them and settled right down cuddling them, we weighed the lilac in at 98g.
The little boy still wouldn’t feed and we rang the vet who suggested taking him back in, we decided on one last try and he finally got it!!! So we cancelled the appointment and have been able to leave him with Poppy and his brothers/sisters.
Hopefully they will all get bigger and better now.
We have now been up for 40 hours and we are all shattered, so time to get some sleep, I should think that Poppy’s Diary might be a bit more regular for the next couple of weeks.
We are so proud of Poppy today, Daisy has taken a bit of a back seat and been upstairs, I’m going to join her in bed for a nice long sleep and cuddle very soon!
